Sesame Street was founded by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrissett. It first premiered in 1969. They had one goal in mind– to prepare disadvantaged kids for school.

This was the very first episode in 1969.

The show targets cognitive and affective goals.

Producers and researchers first assess cognitive goals and indirectly address affective skills.

This method aims to increase self-esteem and feelings of competency.
